Kasm first started doing sculpture when he was in high school. His interest in creating art was largely set aside while he trained as a Red Seal welder and then completed a mechanical engineering degree at the University of Victoria. After spending some time working in the Alberta oil patch, he has returned to creating art.

Many of his works are metal but he sometimes combines other materials when needed to create the impact and outcome he is looking for. Many of his works are are custom pieces created in consultation with the persons that they are made for or to reflect those persons' interests.
